Policies and Regulations for SDUHSD administration of AP Exams 2024-2025:
For the optional AP® Exams to be ordered, students must submit an exam payment by the payment deadline AND activate their exam on the College Board MyAP site by the deadline as well. Review Exam Ordering and Payment instructions carefully HERE.
For more information such as a schedule of exams offered, and directions, contact SDUHSD at [email protected] or call APTS at 1-855-663-8348
- SDUHSD administers only the AP® exams for which corresponding AP® courses are offered within the SDUHSD district.
- Sitting for an AP® Exam is not a required element of a SDUHSD AP® Course. They are optional exams.
- The cost of each test will be $131 per exam ($181 per Capstone Exam). A $50 late fee will be added on during the late payment period, bringing the cost per exam to $181 during Late Payment. For more information on payment, please visit Exam Registration and Payment.
- Late Payments are only accepted only online.
- No student will be excluded from taking AP® tests in SDUHSD due to financial concerns. Please review "Fee Reductions" in the menu at the top for more details regarding fee reductions.
- Without submission of payment AND activation of the exam on MyAP, the student's AP® exam order and registration is not complete and no exam will be ordered.
- AP Capstone® courses themselves do not carry a fee, but students opting to submit their Capstone portfolios to have them be scored by College Board for the external AP® score, they must register and submit payment for a Capstone 'Exam.'
- Payment can be submitted online with a debit or credit card, or by mailing in a check or money order. (A 3.1% credit card processing fee will be added to the cost of the exams for debit or credit card payments.) Payment method can be selected at the end of the payment form linked below.
- Registration for students who are not currently enrolled in SDUHSD schools will be accepted on a conditional basis based on the availability of seating. Students who are not enrolled in SDUHSD schools need to email [email protected] to see if there are spaces available to test in SDUHSD as well as obtain information on cost and instructions for registration as an Independent Student. Due to space concerns, in many cases the SPRING semester in-house registration will need to be completed before we can begin the process of acceptance of a non-SDUHSD student. Please email us at [email protected] for more details.
- SDUHSD students who have self-studied or prepared independently for an exam (i.e. are not currently enrolled in that AP course in SDUHSD schools) are not guaranteed a space to take the exam. SDUHSD works hard to accommodate To register for an exam as an Independent Student, please contact us at [email protected] for a review of your request and special instructions. Due to space constraints, you will be required to wait until students who are enrolled in the SPRING/SECOND SEMESTER SDUHSD AP® courses have completed their exam registration and if space is still available, you would be able to register with the special Independent Student instructions. Please email us at [email protected] to request space. (Reference SDUHSD AP Policies.)
- World Language exams: Due to space limitations connected to recording equipment, these exams will also entail a schedule of recordings and therefor may run longer than other exams. Students are advised to bring with them a snack and bottled water (in a plastic carrying bag.)
- Special Accommodations information can be obtained from your special education case manager or counselor. Applications must be submitted in advance for approval from College Board. Deadline to submit materials to your case manager or counselor is January 24, 2025. More information and details are available under "Testing with Disabilities" in the menu above.
- Exam Cancellation: Students who order and pay for an exam but decide to cancel before the applicable payment window closes for their school site and course will receive a refund of $129 (processing fees that are included in the exam price are non-refundable ). Students who order and pay for an exam but decide to cancel after the applicable payment window for their school and course has closed and before midnight, April 1, 2025, will receive a partial refund: A non-refundable portion of $50 will be retained for cancellation requests submitted between the closing of the applicable payment window and April 1, 2025. No exchange or re-selling of tests. To cancel your exam, send an email to [email protected] include your name, student ID number, school you attend (including the city/state where located), and name of the exam you want to cancel. Exams cancelled from April 1, 2025 onwards as well as no shows on exam day, are not eligible for any refund. Credit/debit card processing fees are non-refundable.
- Please note the following College Board regulations: Students may not take both the AP® Calculus AB and BC exams in the same calendar year. Students wanting to take both of the AP® Physics C exams will be charged for two exams. Only students who have completed the AP ® Computer Science Principles in-course assessments can take the Computer Science Principles written portion of the AP® Exam.
- Students register for an exam, not a location or exam date. Locations and dates are assigned based on number of examinees and space availability. Exams administration locations will vary depending on space availability and needs. Updates, specific locations and information will be posted on this website. Please return to http://sduhsdapexams.com for more information in April. It is the student's responsibility to make sure they know where to report and at what time. Students will not be eligible for a make up exam due to reporting at the incorrect location or the incorrect time.
- For in person exams: Check in for morning exams is at 7:30 a.m. and 12:01 p.m. for afternoon exams and will take approximately 30 minutes. During Check In, students will complete exam identification information. Please make sure that you are in the room on time since every minute before the exam timing begins also counts! Morning exam administration will begin at EXACTLY 8am and afternoon at 12:30pm. Students who report after exam administration begins will not be admitted. No exceptions. Exams will take on average 4 hours (calculated from check in). Exam lengths vary - please make sure you're familiar with the structure of your specific exam (and add at least 45 minutes to the exam administration time for instructions and breaks.) Please notify your coaches of AP® Test dates and times and plan accordingly. Students will not be allowed to leave the test early. Early departure will mean that the departure is reported to College Board, that the exam is cancelled and that no refund will be issued.
- For in person exams: Students must bring a current picture ID card, pencils, pens, charged school-issued Chromebook and charge cord. Without a current picture ID a student WILL NOT be admitted. ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION DEVICES, BACKPACKS, PURSES OR BAGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN TESTING CENTERS. We recommend those are left at home or in your vehicle. Students MAY bring water and snacks in clear containers (see through) and carried in plastic bags. These items may also be left in designated areas outside the testing area (or inside the larger facilities at a storage space.) These items may not be accessed during testing, but can be accessed at the break between exams. Cell phones or study materials in these bags will be confiscated and may result in disciplinary action.
- Students must adhere to the Test Site Regulations for the duration of the exam period. Consequences may include removal from exam and cancellation of scores or being banned from future College Board examinations. See Test Site Regulations for specific details.
- College Board is extremely strict regarding qualifying for rescheduling an AP® exam to the Late Testing (make-up) window. In addition, the reason for requesting late testing must also meet the SDUHSD Board Approved regulations for excused absences. In conjunction with College Board regulations, SDUHSD approved reasons to reschedule an exam include: extreme illness (hospitalization or medical care, a doctor's note will be required), bereavement, court appearance, conflict with another AP® exam, or a school sponsored sport or academic event. Additional fees may apply and documentation may be required. Students are NOT eligible for Late Testing for reasons such as: family trips, conflict with an in-class exam/activity, failure to attend the exam, or having selected the incorrect A®P exam subject when you submitted your order. Contact [email protected] for more information - deadlines for ordering the alternate exam materials apply and vary per subject and are usually within 24-hours of the originally scheduled exam date.
